A Sad Story

On Sunday evening, Mother's Day, there was a fatal car accident not far from our house. It appears the driver was drunk and trying to pass cars on a road that he shouldn't have. What breaks my heart is that he killed a 19 year old boy and seriously injured that kid's 16 year old brother. The location where the accident happened is a road that we travel often. It was a beautiful, clear spring day at 5:10 in the evening. WE could have been on that road. It passes by a popular local farm stand and a walk-up ice cream stand. It's a road with a lot of local traffic. Things can happen so quickly. In the blink of an eye a mother who woke up that morning and probably got a card, a kiss on the cheek, and a "Happy Mother's Day" from her two teenage sons is now splitting her time between planning a funeral and sitting bedside in the ICU at the local hospital. I sit here and worry about how to teach my son not to go through life punching people and praising Hannah on how she fields a ground ball....I cannot imagine going through life and raising these kids to adulthood and then losing them through blind (terrible) luck. Please keep these people in your thoughts (and prayers if you're a religious person) because I can't imagine anything more horrible than losing my babies. It would be terrible to lose a child any day of the year, but to lose them on Mother's Day is a cruel fate that no woman deserves.
