Okay, maybe it's a "no go" on the TV in the bedroom

From the New York Times:

"Children with bedroom TVs score lower on school tests and are more likely to have sleep problems. Having a television in the bedroom is strongly associated with being overweight and a higher risk for smoking"

That all makes sense. And I'm a big fan of no tv in general. But how on EARTH does a tv in the bedroom correspond to higher smoking rates? I would think kids would be less inclined to smoke if they had a tv in their bedroom, because they'd be in their room watching tv where their parents would know if they were smoking. I wasn't allowed to have a tv in my room EVER. I was told to go outside and get some fresh air. I went outside and smoked with my friends, thankfully the fresh air blew the smell off of me.
